Just add water

Posted on June 7, 2012 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Work is nearly complete on a 7,900 gallon rainwater harvesting system at the Sonoma Community Center, which will be officially dedicated at a ceremony and reception on June 9 at 10 a.m. With a 16,000 square foot roof to catch and direct rainwater, the building at 276 E. Napa St.  is an ideal location for the new system. SCC expects to reduce its own city water use by 80 percent and lower landscape maintenance costs by 70 percent. The operation will reduce water pollution in Nathanson Creek and become a model for environmental education on water supply issues and landscaping alternatives.
