How to join Sheriff’s Citizen’s Academy

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office’s is accepting applications for its Citizen’s Academy Spring Session, a nine-week program that provides an inside look at local law enforcement.

During the academy, which begins January 29, students will learn about police ethics, communications, crime prevention, criminal law, and the correctional system. Additionally, there will be an overview of investigation units including CSI, Coroner, Violent Crimes, Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault, Narcotics, Intelligence Unit and much more.

Applications for the upcoming session must be received by January 10, 2014.
Classes meet Wednesday evenings, January 20 through April 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office main building, 2796 Ventura Ave., Santa Rosa.

Potential candidates for the citizen’s academy must be age 18 years or older, live or work in Sonoma County, and pass a basic background check.
