Movement, dance and music just for little ones

Posted on December 30, 2013 by Sonoma Valley Sun

In response to local families looking to educate and entertain young children, the Sonoma Community Center will launch three classes in its “Fun for Five and Under” program this month.

SCC utilized a consortium of educators, including participants from the Sonoma Conservatory of Dance, Sonoma Theater Alliance and Sonoma State University, to develop this series.

Jaime Love, executive director of the Sonoma Theatre Alliance, will offer “Exploring Movement through the Senses” for children ages two through five. Under her guidance, children will explore sight, smell, touch and sound using movement, drama, and costumes. Exploring Movement will be held Saturdays, January 11 through February 15 from 10 to 11 a.m.

Krissy Marchus will lead “Dance from Around the World,” introducing children to international music and dances in ballet, modern, jazz, West African and Latin styles. The class meets Thursdays, January 16 through February 20 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

In “Making Music,” Kathryn Del Chiaro will introduce a special instrument each day to explore music, creative expression, and coordination. It runs Mondays beginning January 27 from 10:30 11:30 a.m.

Parents and children are welcome to attend the first class meeting free. Each six-week class will now be offered for $75 and financial aid is available. For more information about financial aid, or to register, please call SCC at 938.4626 x1.

All classes will be held at Sonoma Community Center, which is located at 276 East Napa Street, Sonoma, CA 95476. This program is made possible by generous funding from the Sonoma Valley Vintners and Growers Foundation.
