Like Tiger Woods’ smooth stroke, The Los Arroyos Golf Course is long gone — and now so are all the trees. The parcel on Stage Gulch Road near Watmaugh has been completely cleared. For what? No plans submitted yet, but it turns out all that grading work was done without a permit. When the county stepped in, the owner hired a consultant to work on the required zoning permit, including an environmental review for work with the creek setback. It now appears they are on par for voluntary compliance. You know what they say about business getting done on a golf course.
All hail Sonoma Valley’s Powerlifting gold medalists. Wayne Jandoc, Betsy Spann, and Bob Kinsey had the highest total earned for first place awards in their age/weight groups at the United States Powerlifting National Championships. They also qualified for the World Powerlifting Competitions in November. Wayne also set new world records in the Bench Press, and Betsy Spann set records in all three lifts. Teammates Shawn Buckley and Daniel Dudgeon have been invited to participate in the elite Olympia Pro Invitational Championships in September. Other members of the team, under the direction of Wayne Jandoc, are working hard at the Fitness Factory to participate in upcoming competitions.
Sonoma Valley Hospital has withdrawn its proposal to assume management of the West County Hand and Physical Therapy Center in Sebastopol, the rehabilitation therapy service that was closed when Palm Valley Hospital suspended operations in April. Turns out the deal was too pricey. “It’s an excellent facility in all respects, and we wanted to bring it back for the Sebastopol community,” said Michelle Donaldson, SVH Chief Revenue Officer. “But as we looked at it more closely during the contract development phase, we found the initial investment costs to be significantly higher than anticipated.” Result: “not an acceptable return on investment for Sonoma Valley Hospital.”
You had me at Kezar. Vintage House is in season — football season – with its latest lecture series, a five-week course on all things 49ers. Coaching the squad is Mike Lyons, whose 49er experience includes attending training camps and games beginning in the ‘50’s, and serving as an usher and playing high school football at Kezar Stadium. The classes will meet on Thursday afternoons from 1-3 p.m., October 9 through November 6. Hopefully he can then pursue a doctorate in Super Bowl.
Late news of the 50th class reunion for the Sonoma Valley High School class of 1964. The bash is Saturday, September 20, 4 p.m. at 761 Michael Drive. Call 935.1120 for more info. The alert would have gone out sooner, jokes Charlene Neles, “but hey, we’re old.”
