Sonoma Valley Hospital has again received an “A” rating for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit organization which rates how well hospitals protect patients from errors, injuries and infections.
The Leapfrog Group recently released an updated Hospital Safety Score which provides patient safety ratings for more than 2,500 hospitals across the country, rating each hospital by assigning an A, B, C, D or F grade. Nationally, just 31 percent of hospitals received an “A” rating.
“We have worked very hard to create a culture of safety at Sonoma Valley Hospital and it’s gratifying to receive confirmation that our efforts to meet the highest standards in patient safety are succeeding,” said CEO Kelly Mather.
Sonoma Valley Hospital also received an A rating in the previous Hospital Safety Score ratings released in Spring 2014. In addition, Consumer Reports named SVH one of the 15 safest hospitals in the country this year.
The Hospital Safety Score is designed to represent a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm, and this is important information for consumers, according to Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group.
“Consumers have largely taken the time to educate themselves about insurance plans and pricing. Now, we need patients to take the next step, putting safety first, for themselves and their families, and that means seeking out the safest hospitals in their area. The Hospital Safety Score arms consumers with that information,” said Binder
