Sonoma Valley Museum of Art announced today that longtime supporters, the McQuown family, finalized a significant matching gift of $200,000 to increase attendance, improve marketing of the Museum and to look into the benefits of a major museum retail and online store.
The gift will be given over two years as the Museum obtains the matching funds. The museum has secured the first match, which comes from Simon and Kimberly Blattner, Jim Lamb and an anonymous donor.
“This gift is game changing and comes at a critical time for the Museum. We are moving into the next phase of developing Sonoma Valley Museum of Art’s identity as a world-class museum and a great asset to Sonoma,” said Simon Blattner, board president.
The Museum has agreed to create a marketing plan that clearly identifies SVMA’s goals and strategies. It will also contract with a Museum Store consultant to work with a committee that will identify a critical path for assessing the viability of a retail operation.
“The McQuown’s are not only great friends of the museum, but also recognize the value of the museum to a very special community. We are deeply grateful for the ability to build on the momentum of our success in the last few years,” said Kate Eilertsen, executive director.
The Sonoma Valley Museum of Art provides award winning and internationally acclaimed exhibitions and extensive educational programs. The education and public programs are consistently sold out and the Art Rewards the Students (A.R.T.S.) program, provides art classes and a museum visit for every fourth and fifth grade student in Sonoma Valley.
