Update: man arrested at scene cleared in Sonoma woman’s gunshot death

Posted on June 23, 2015 by Sonoma Valley Sun

The Sonoma Police Department received a 911 call Monday night requesting an ambulance to the 1300 block of Pueblo Avenue for a female who had shot herself and was non-responsive.

Colleen G. Ramirez, age 53, was found deceased in her bedroom from an apparent gunshot wound. A handgun was found next to the deceased female.

Ramirez lived in the house with her adult daughter and another adult male. According to the Sheriff’s Dept. report, interviews conducted on scene suggest that Ramirez and her boyfriend, who was at the house at the time of her death, had been in an argument prior to everyone going to bed.

Salvador Loera Escobedo, a 49-year-old man from Vallejo, was detained during the early investigation into the death. Escobedo was arrested for an outstanding warrant from Solano County. He was booked into Sonoma County Jail and posted bail for his out of county warrant. He was detained because of the investigation and arrested for the warrant.

Escobedo is not considered a suspect in her death.

The Sonoma County Sheriff Coroner’s Office has performed an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of Ramirez’ death. The results of the autopsy will be available to the authorized persons when the forensic pathologist’s report is finalized. Preliminary results of the autopsy will not be disclosed.

This is an open investigation. Information is released only when it does not compromise the integrity of the case or the rights of involved parties.

  1. I hope they tested Mr. Escobedo’s hands for residue from the gun before he was allowed to leave the facility. I just don’t see anyone shooting themselves in the chest. He was the only other person in the room.

  2. Yes they were along with all the appropriate testing for evidence. Any death is unfortunate but when someone takes their life we never know what’s going on in their mind and with other attempts being made without the appropriate help it’s only a matter of time. In this case all are mourning a loss including Mr. Escobedo

  3. This is such a horrible incident that occured. I’m sure they will do follow up investigations and the whole truth will be revealved. Let’s just hope our professionals don’t take this lightly for such a loving, caring devoted mother, grandmother daughter, sister and friend! You will be missed.

  4. Food for thought… this woman was highly educated on the use of guns….. the chest? I don’t see it. Hoping this was all just a terrible accident.

  5. Food for thought… it doesnt matter if some one is highly educated on the use of guns or not if someone is going to commit suicide there are many ways to it. And just the simple fact that someone has a fascination for guns and if that person is depresed and taking medications for depression I am sure that there is a much higher chance that if that person was to commit suicide it would be with a hand gun. And food for though… for those of you who dont know there was recent failed attempt of suicide just a couple months ago. All that most people show the public are the happy moments no one goes to event moping around, no one post there deepest saddest thoughts on social media, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT SOMEONE MAY BE GOING THROUGH OR WHAT GOES ON IN THERE HEADS UNLESS YOU ARE THAT PERSON. So unfair to judge and post your remarks on the internet unless you actually have facts to prove any foul play was involved. Which I am confident there was not. So why not wait to post these comments until after the autopsy has been revealed and the police finalize there findings. I am very confident that the police department has done and will continue to do there jobs well.

  6. I think now should be the time to offer condulences. And pray for both Colleen and her family. A beautiful life was lost. I am sure she is now resting peaceful in heaven with the angels.

  7. I don’t believe she attempted suicide a couple months ago. her kids would know!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All Hear say. Have your opionions all you want. I’m standing up for her and her rights. And now on to morn.

  8. To Marie:
Your wild accusations are unwelcome and frankly rude and insensitive.
    Tt:
Thank you for pointing out that Marie is full of crap and standing up for Colleen and her children in their time of mourning.

  9. I have known Colleen and her family for close to a decade now. While I realize depression and suicidal thoughts can happen without friends and family knowing, they always show signs. Colleen was a much stronger woman than that. The fact she knew gun saftey makes us all wonder how it could have been an accident. Just hours before this happened, she posted on Facebook about rims she was getting for her hot rod. She was planning on attending the relay for life as she did every year.

What attempt was made a couple months ago? You seem more informed than the people who would have been informed if it did happen, like her children and siblings.

Why don’t you wait and post your comments until after the findings are finalized?

  10. To “m” again I would thank you as well for speaking so eloquently on Colleen’s and her family’s behalf. Bless you

  11. 6 years ago in vallejo this man out of no where followed me for about a mile tailgating and revving his engine trying to run me off the road and when i pulled over to get out of his way he got behind me again and intentionally rammed into the back of my car, reversed and then sped off. It was like a scene in a movie. I had never seen him before had no issue with him no road rage incident or anything this was completely unprovoked. Possible mistaken identity or mistaken car not sure. He was detained minutes later for dui, no dl and hit n run. Very dangerous man.
