Sonoma’s Climate Change March

Posted on November 30, 2015 by Sonoma Valley Sun

IMG_0013Nearly 120 climate-change activists (including residents, of Napa, Petaluma, Sebastopol and Santa Rosa) march together to the Sonoma Plaza on Sunday to draw attention to the U.N. Climate Conference taking place in Paris

IMG_0008The Sonoma Climate Change March was co-sponsored by the Earth Care Committee of First Congregational Church and Transition Sonoma Valley.

The Sonoma action began at Burlingame Hall, with a march to the City Hall horseshoe. As part of a global effort, concerned citizens acted to ensure that world, national and local governmental leaders understand that people demand action to stop the increase of carbon in the earth’s atmosphere, according to TSV’s Tim Boeve.

IMG_0015Previous attempts by world leaders to reach binding accords to reduce greenhouse gases around the world (Kyoto, Japan in 1987 and Copenhagen in 2009) failed to achieve significant action by world governments. But attitudes are changing, Boeuve said. “Many environmentalists agree that Paris finally offers a real chance for world leaders to agree to significant, international accords for thwarting human-caused climate change.” For more on the FCC Earth Care Committee contact John Donelley at [email protected].
