Where can you pay an old bill with a can of tuna or a jar of peanut butter? This holiday season you can take care of past-due library fees through the “Food For Fines” Drive, as the donation of food will erase all fines from overdue items.
The Food for Fines program will run from Tuesday, December 1 through Saturday, December 19. Patrons can give to the community and get their library account back in good standing at the same time, said Library Manager Lisa Musgrove.
Sonoma County Library is partnering with Friends in Sonoma Helping (F.I.S.H) and other local food banks to offer a Food For Fines program. Food donation barrels will be found at all library branches. According F.I.S.H, the most needed non-perishable food items include:
• Canned tuna and meats
• Peanut butter
• Beans & rice
• Pasta & sauce
• Low-sodium soups & stews
• No sugar added canned fruits
• Low-sodium canned vegetables
By stopping by your local library and participating in Food For Fines all library patrons will be joining in with thousands of Sonoma Valley businesses, individuals and organizations helping to end hunger in our community by donating food.
The Library is located at 755 West Napa Street, Sonoma. For more information contact Musgrove at 996-5217 or lmusgrove@sonoma.lib.ca.us.
