Cuclis named president of Sonoma County Education Board

Gina Cuclis was unanimously elected President of the Sonoma County Board of Education by her colleagues at their December 10 meeting.

“As a parent of twin daughters who graduated from Sonoma Valley public schools prepared for college, I’m extremely engaged and committed to finding innovative and cost effective solutions to better educate our kids and serve our families,” Cuclis said.

The County Board of Education is the governing body for the County Office of Education. It works in conjunction with Sonoma County Superintendent Steve Herrington to provide community stewardship of countywide education initiatives. The county office provides fiscal oversight to districts and operates schools for special education and alternative education students who are not enrolled at district sites.

Cuclis was elected to the County Board of Education in 2012 unseating an incumbent. She represents Sonoma Valley and east Santa Rosa, an area that parallels the 1st district supervisorial boundaries. Her responsibilities include being the liaison to the boards for Sonoma Valley Unified, Kenwood, Bennett Valley Union, and Rincon Valley Union school districts.

Cuclis is also a candidate for 1st district county supervisor. A columnist for The Sonoma Sun, she has lived in Sonoma Valley 29 years.
