Serial burglar busted after Sonoma job

A man tied to a residential burglary in Sonoma has been arrested in connection with at least five separate break-ins throughout the area.

Jeffrey William Giannini, 27, was arrested Thursday at his San Rafael home. Investigators were working from a tip by a UPS driver, who spotted the suspect Tuesday in Sonoma emerging from the backyard of a Barcelona Drive home.

The tipster thought the man was suspicious, and took photos of his vehicle as it drove away. Using the photos provided by the UPS driver, detectives were able to identify, locate and arrest Giannini.

At the time of his arrest, Giannini was in possession of stolen items taken during at least five different burglaries. Most of the recovered items were from the Sonoma heist, including computer electronics, jewelry, coins and a firearm.

Giannini admitted to the Sonoma burglary and confessed to numerous other burglaries over the past month in Healdsburg, Windsor, Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park, Petaluma, Calistoga and Novato.

Giannini told police that he would walk neighborhoods during the day and look for unoccupied homes to burglarize by knocking on doors and waiting to see if anyone answered. If someone answered he would give the excuse that he was looking for his lost dog.

Giannini was charged with five counts of burglary, receiving stolen property and violation of probation. His bail was set at $450,000.

Anyone with information regarding this case or who may believe they were victims in this case are asked to contact Detective Don Fletcher at 707-565-2185.
