The Sonoma County Sheriff’s “Henry 1” helicopter lifted an unconscious man Friday from a remote area of Sonoma Valley Regional Park.
The unidentified man was spotted about 100 yards off of a park trail, near flowing water and surrounded by steep terrain, at about 2:10 p.m. Glen Ellen Fire Department, Eldridge Fire Department, and Sonoma Valley Fire and Rescue responded to the scene.
Because of the terrain and the medical needs of the injure, crews decided that the helicopter was best option means to move the man to an awaiting ambulance. The Henry 1 crew rigged the helicopter for a 100’ long-line rescue. The pilot flew the paramedic to the patient, on the end of the long line. The paramedic then secured the victim him in a Bauman Bag rescue device.
The pilot flew the patient and the paramedic to an awaiting Sonoma Valley Fire and Rescue ambulance for continued emergency care.
