Historically, a Grange Hall was an integral part of a rural community, a meeting place, event space and gathering spot. “We want to play that role, to be a real community center,” said Sonoma Valley Grange President Seth Dolinsky. Restoring the 90-year-old hall will make that possible, said Dolinsky, at left, with construction aces Karl Nyberg, Thom Bridges and Blaed Bridges.
The original structure was built in the 1920s and was part of Rosenthal’s Resort. The Grange bought it in 1934. The Grange put on the front addition which now houses the new restrooms.
The job, which has entailed countless volunteer hours, will include an all-new commercial kitchen. That will allow the hall to host food events, and augment its value as an affordable rental for private parties and community celebrations. In the spirit of a business incubator, the kitchen itself will be available to rent to culinary entrepreneurs, as well as host Grange “community canning nights” and other classes. Dolinsky said construction should be complete in a few months. Find out more at sonomavalleygrange.com.
