Burglary and vandalism at Flowery Elementary school

Burglars broke windows and gained entry to classrooms at Flowery Elementary School on successive nights, Thursday and Friday this past week. Louann Carlomagno told the SUN that the school’s alarm system detected “movement” inside the computer lab on Thursday night and when Sheriff’s department officers arrived it was determined that four Mini-Mac computers and a monitor had been stolen.

Another classroom was also entered, and musical instruments were taken, a ukelele and a bass guitar, the personal instruments of a teacher at Flowery she used in the classroom.

Another break-in occurred on the following night, Friday, when thieves pried off the plywood used to replace the window broken the previous night. Again, the alarm went off, officers were dispatched but little appeared to have been taken. Graffiti was written on the white-board of a kindergarten class and an epi-pen available for allergy emergencies was taken.

“Vandalism has decreased over the years, so this so very disappointing,” said Superintendent Carlomagno. She noted that security at the school has been “beefed up.”

If a member of the public has any information, they are encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Department, or call the School District office at 935-4246.
