Sonoma child molester sentenced to state prison

Ivan Reyes, 31, of Sonoma, was today sentenced to five years in state prison after pleading no contest to two felony counts of lewd and lascivious acts upon a child under the age of 14, according to the Sonoma County District Attorney Jill Ravitch.

The charges resulted from disclosures made by two young female family members that the defendant had sexually assaulted them. In July 2014, the first victim reported she was molested by the defendant in 2008 when she was 7 years old. The second victim told law enforcement in December 2014 that she was molested in 2010 when she was 9 years old.

Both crimes took place in the City of Sonoma. The defendant was arrested in late December 2014 and admitted the accusations to detectives.

“These young victims demonstrated incredible bravery in helping to bring this defendant to justice,” Ravitch said. “We are pleased that the Court denied the request for probation and imposed a prison sentence which will be followed by lifetime registration as a sex offender. Hopefully this will bring some sense of closure to this family.”

At sentencing one of the victims, now 13-years-old, read a statement in open court detailing how the defendants actions have affected many aspects of her life.  Her mother also read a compelling statement to the court. They were accompanied to court and supported by several leather vest clad members of the non-profit group Bikers Against Child Abuse.

In handing-down his sentence, Judge Patrick Broderick noted the extremely young ages of the victims as well as the passage of time between the crimes, saying the defendant had years between the assaults to reflect on his first victim, but rather than seeking help at that time, he went on to victimize another girl.
