Sonoma Valley Hospital celebrated its long history with a party on Saturday with tours, lunch, live music with The Cork Pullers and a street party with fun activities for children.
“We were so pleased to see the wonderful turn out for our open house,” said CEO Kelly Mather. More than 300 people attended the bash. “I’ve worked at a number of hospitals in my career, but I’ve never seen one with such an engaged community as ours.”
The first hospital – a few beds in a nurse’s home on Burndale Avenue – opened in 1926. The health care district was formed in 1946. “Since its inception 70 years ago, when people voted to create a health care district and build a new hospital, we’ve created a community hospital in every sense of the word, and we want to thank our community for its ongoing support,” Mather said.
Guided tours through the Hospital were popular during the Open House. One of the stops was at the CT Scan machine within the Medical Imaging department.
