New principal for Dunbar School

Posted on May 5, 2017 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Jillian Beall has been named as the principal at Dunbar Elementary School beginning with the 2017-18 school year. Currently the vice principal of Adele Harrison Middle School, Beall will remain in that assignment until the end of the current school year, School District Superintendent Louann Carlomagno announced Friday.

Seeing first-hand Jillian’s work ethic and commitment to the students and programs she works with, convinced me that she would prove to be a strong asset for the Dunbar school and community,” Carlomagno said.

Beall is a graduate of Sonoma State University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2008. She earned her multiple subject teaching credential in 2009 and her administrative services credential in 2015. Jillian is currently working toward completing her Masters degree in Educational Leadership.

Before coming to Sonoma Valley, Beall taught at Roseland Collegiate Prep Middle-High School and Roseland Accelerated Middle School in Santa Rosa. During her time at Roseland Collegiate Prep and Roseland Accelerated Middle School, she also served both schools as the Accelerated Schools site coach, and interim assistant principal at Roseland Accelerated Middle School.

Her husband, Travis, teaches English at Roseland University Prep and they have two children, Nolan and Lily.

At Adele Harrison Middle School Beall has had an active role and key responsibilities as the AVID District Director, English Learner Manager, and co-facilitator for schoolwide Restorative Practices trainings. Additionally, Carlomagno said, she is viewed by her colleagues as an administrator who holds high expectations for herself, students, and staff; has a firm grasp on curriculum, content standards and program implementation; and is committed to equity in the educational experiences for all students.

Mary Ann Spitzer, principal of Adele Harrison Middle School, said, “Jillian’s impact on the students, staff, and Adele community has been amazing. She has been a hands on, resourceful team member and she will be missed. I take comfort in knowing she will still be in the district and working her magic at Dunbar.”
