Students from Sonoma Valley High School marched up Broadway and held a rally in the Plaza Pavilion on April 20 — the 19th anniversary of the Columbine school shooting that killed 13 people. “We are here not only to protest gun violence but also to fight for safe schools,” co-organizer Jose Valdivia told a crowd of about 50. “All students deserve to have a safe and equal education, free from all forms of violence — that includes gun violence, police violence, and ICE raids. Youth has power. Be the change!”
Added co-organizer Jacquelyn Torres said, “This is not the last time you are going to hear of these youth organizers, as our efforts will continue. Having students of color come together and demand their voices be heard is very empowering.”
