Tom Stubbs has been named the interim principal at Sonoma’s Sassarini Elementary School for the 2019-2020 school year.

Retired for four years, Stubbs returns to the Sonoma Valley Unified School District after having been a long-time teacher and administrator in the Valley. He served SVUSD for 17 years, 13 years as a teacher and four years as a vice principal.

Stubbs steps into fill the vacancy created when Andrew Ryan, the Sassarini principal for the past two years, took the Director of Human Resources position.

Assisting Stubbs will be Laura Monterosso. As “Administrative Designee,” a position she has held for several years under previous principals. She will assist in areas of student discipline, Individual Education Plan meetings and site-level curricular priorities in her role as TOSA and Administrative Designee.

Stubbs will be the primary contact for community and parent concerns and questions while overseeing the day-to-day operations of the site, including facilities, district communication and compliance, community and stakeholder interface and discipline.

Stubbs said he welcomes community members with questions or concerns to reach out to him at 707-935-6040, [email protected] or during his open office hours on Mondays and Thursdays and by appointment.

Sonoma Valley Unified will renew the search for a full-time principal in the spring of 2020.

“SVUSD thanks Mr. Stubbs and Mrs. Monterosso for stepping up when our Sassarini Seahawks needed them most,” said Ryan in a statement.
