Four ways the current pandemic has changed everyday life

Posted on April 8, 2020 by Sonoma Valley Sun

The current pandemic has affected us in so many ways. Pandemics of this scale are bound to change the way we go about our daily lives. We have gone from going out to do most of the things we do everyday, to having to do those things at home instead.

Here are some of the things that have changed since the pandemic began:

People now cook more often

Individuals, particularly those that have 9 to 5 jobs, usually don’t have time to prepare their own meals, so they eat at restaurants instead. But due to the pandemic, many people are spending more time in the kitchen than usual: If you can’t go out to eat at a restaurant, the only other option you have is to cook your own meals.

As the way we go about our everyday lives changes, our spending habits change too. For example, as more time is being spent in the kitchen, I believe we are going to see an uptick in the demand for kitchen tools and appliances

People aren’t going out to work out anymore

They are working out in their homes instead. Those who have home gyms are really lucky in terms of keeping fit during this pandemic. Those who don’t have home gyms are taking advantage of body weight exercises to maintain their fitness levels. Also, fitness enthusiasts who have been training with a personal trainer can no longer employ the services of one.

Indeed, our demand for certain things change as our activities and the way we go about them change. Therefore, with regard to this transition from going out to the gym to working out at home instead, more and more personal trainers are creating online versions of their training programs as the demand for online training rises. These programs include live video sessions and one-on-one training in designated locations.

Most employees now work at home

Many companies have closed their offices and their employees are now completing their daily tasks from their homes in order to protect each other and observe social distancing.

While some employees may find it difficult to work at home due to the lack of a proper working environment or office in their homes, others are having a good time because they can do whatever they want while working, and they don’t have to worry about anyone breathing down their necks for at least a couple of weeks.

People are consuming more entertainment

The entertainment industry is currently booming — Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, you name it. Many people have more free time now than they’ve ever had, and if they can’t spend that time outside, they won’t just sit at home in boredom.

They’ll find other ways to kill boredom, and, more often than not, they turn to movies and TV shows. These are four major ways the current pandemic has changed our everyday lives. Of course, it has affected our lives in so many more ways, but there’s hardly anyone who hasn’t experienced any of these four changes.
