SVH Hospital: Vaccine Q and A

Posted on January 26, 2021 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Sonoma Valley Hospital has responded to the Frequently Asked Questions it is getting about its Covid vaccination process.

Why is it taking so long?

The first tier of vaccines was designated for people who need to keep our healthcare system capable of taking care of others who are ill and at the highest risk of exposure to COVID-19. For Sonoma Valley that includes health care workers and first responders. This is an extremely large group of people, and our vaccine supply is very limited. In addition, the distribution process is quite complex and it is taking time to organize vaccination sites from each individual county. As the vaccine supply slowly expands, we have been broadening our reach.

When will it start?

Pending vaccine availability, this clinic will begin the first weekend in February. Details regarding eligibility and scheduling will be made available through the SVH website and hotline once they are confirmed. Sonoma Valley Health Partners: Along with the Sonoma Valley Community Health Center, Sonoma Valley Fire and Rescue, City of Sonoma, and the Catalyst Fund, we have begun to implement the logistics for establishing a mass vaccination site in Sonoma Valley.

Which Phase is the Hospital currently vaccinating?

Currently the hospital continues to vaccinate Phase 1(a) Tiers 1, 2, and 3 as established by the Department of Public Health. Learn more here: LINK

Who is in Phase 1(a)?

For a complete list, please follow this link to the County’s site: LINK Where is the County in providing vaccines as of January 20, 2021?

Who does Sonoma Valley Hospital receive the vaccines from?

SVH receives its vaccine allocations from Sonoma County Department of Public Health.

Members of Kaiser have received their first dose already from Kaiser, what is taking so long?

Overall there are still not enough vaccines for everyone who wants one, nor enough clinics established to accommodate the distribution. When the State of California receives its allocation, it is distributed to Counties and to multi-county entities such as Kaiser and Sutter. Counties and multi-county entities then decide individually how to further distribute the vaccine allocations.

Is the Hospital staff receiving the vaccine?

More than 90% of our staff has been vaccinated.

If I had COVID-19, how long should I wait to get the vaccine?

Please consult with your medical provider, but in general consider waiting at least three months.

What about those of us who are 75 and older?

The vaccine supply is extremely limited. Once vaccine supplies and resources allow, SVH plans to begin Phase 1(b) with population aged 75 and older and will expand further when supplies allow. We will notify you when this occurs.
