For the homeless, a brief shelter from the cold

In response to predicted freezing temperatures, the City of Sonoma and the County of Sonoma opened a temporary warming shelter at the Sonoma Veterans Memorial Hall. The shelter opened at 7 pm on Thursday, December 1, and remained open through Saturday morning, December 3.

“This is good news for those who are experiencing homelessness, and for those who have shelter without any heat,” said Kathy King of Sonoma Overnight Support. “We are extremely grateful to the City and County for providing this much-needed warming center.

Additionally, and aided by volunteers including Sonoma Mayor and SOS Boardmember Jack Ding, ponchos were distributed. SOS also filled propane heaters to be used in its open-air tent.
