Rotary Club of Sonoma Valley honors Tony Pisacane for community service

The Rotary Club of Sonoma Valley has recognized Tony Pisacane as a Paul Harris Fellow for his many contributions to Sonoma Valley.

Pisacane was recognized for his leadership of the Books to Schools Program for the Friends of the Sonoma Valley Library organization, which has placed over 35,000 books in local school libraries and classrooms during the past seven years. Since 2017, Pisacane has also managed the used book sales for the Sonoma Valley Library to help raise much needed funds.

“This recognition means a lot to me,” Pisacane said. “The children of our community deserve all we can do to help. That is my mission, to get the kids interested in reading and let them know this is a skill which will serve them well throughout their lives.

Seeing the work of Rotary inspires me to keep up my work and help as many people as I can,” he said.

The Paul Harris Fellow recognition was created in 1957 and is named after the founder of Rotary International.

“The Rotary Club of Sonoma Valley awards Paul Harris Fellows to celebrate local leaders who demonstrate by their actions a commitment to community service,” said Rotary Club president Jim Carruthers.  “Tony Pisacane is one of Sonoma’s unsung heroes making a difference for our local schools, our community, and our youth.”

Pisacane was nominated for the award by long-time Rotarian Wayne Schake. The award was presented at a recent club meeting.

The Rotary Club of Sonoma Valley meets at Noon on Wednesdays at the Sonoma Golf Club. Visitors are welcome.  Contact John Coulston at johndcoulston@gmail.com to attend.
