Grammy Award-winning jazz vocalist Catherine Russell and her band will perform in Sonoma Valley for the first time on Sunday, September 17. Born to the vibe – her father was Louis Armstrong’s long-time musical director, her mother a touring jazz guitarist – Russell has “a voice that wails like a horn and whispers like a snake in the Garden of Eden” (NPR).
She has worked with Steely Dan, Wynton Marsalis, David Bowie, and Madonna, among many dozens, and has emerged as an acclaimed solo artist, recording eight albums as principal. Her Sonoma Valley interlude opens with a set from two-time Emmy winner Tony Saunders and the Keystone Band.
Hosted by Winery Sixteen 600, the “Grenache Day Celebration” starts at 5pm (doors at 4pm) in an intimate barn setting on Denmark Street. $75. Sixteen600.com/CRTIX
