Coming up at Jack London State Park:

Jack London Memorial at the Gravesite, Nov. 18

2023 marks the 107th anniversary of Jack London’s death. Park Historian Lou Leal will lead a memorial at London’s gravesite, and songwriter Jeff Falconer will perform his original song, written in memory of Jack London.

London died of kidney failure on Nov. 22, 1916. In his short life he accomplished much, not only as the author of 50 books, but also as an adventurer, reporter, war correspondent, sportswriter, and innovative farmer. He was in the process of developing a model ranch, destined to be the finest in California, when he died.

The memorial is open to the public at no charge and reservations are not required. The park entry fee of $10 per vehicle (up to nine passengers) applies.  Attendees should gather at the House of Happy Walls Museum at 10:30 a.m. to start the half mile walk to the grave site at 10:30 am.  A golf cart will be available for those who need assistance.

10th Annual Turkey Waddle Hike, Nov. 24

The 10th annual Turkey Waddle Hike lets everyone get out and “shake their tail feathers” after a day of feasting and football.  Celebrated on the day after Thanksgiving since 2014, this moderate 3.5-mile hike leads through mixed evergreens on the way to the majestic Ancient Redwood (also affectionately known as the Grandmother Tree).

“Waddlers” will gather at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 24.  The hike will end at noon.

Great for all ages, participants should wear sturdy shoes and bring water.  The trail includes uneven and rocky surfaces and involves some elevation gain and loss.

Tickets are $10 per person, plus an entry fee of $10 per vehicle (up to nine passengers).  Reservations are required and can be made at https://jacklondonpark.com/events/turkey-waddle-2023/.

Jack London State Historic Park is located at the top of London Ranch Road in Glen Ellen.
