Sonoma history lecture: Vallejo’s silver spoons

Posted on February 1, 2024 by Sonoma Valley Sun

On February 8, the Sonoma Valley Historical Society will present Breck Parkman to  talk about three silver spoons that once belonged to General Mariano Vallejo. The spoons hint at the importance of gift exchange in the contested borderlands between the Mexican and Russian settlements in Northern California in the 1800’s.

Breck Parkman is a Senior Archaeologist for the State of California. He has traveled around the state as well as the world, was a founding Director of the Unesco-sponsored Fort Ross – Global Village Project and a past P resident of the Society for California Archaeology. Currently he is on the Board of Diectors of the Sonoma Ecology Center and is well known in the local community.
Breck’s talks are always lively  and informative.  He will be speaking at the Sonoma Valley Woman’s Club, 574 1st Street E at 7pm. $5 for non-members.
