The Sonoma Valley Regional Library is hosting an exhibition of fiber arts by the Wine Country Rug Hooker’s Guild in April.
The public is invited to a reception on Friday April 5, 2024 from 4 to 5:30 PM in the library’s forum room. Light refreshments will be served. The exhibition will be available to view for the entire month of April during open hours when the forum room is not in use.
The Wine Country Rug Hooker’s Guild is a chapter of ATHA, The American Association of Traditional Rug Hooking. The Sonoma County Guild began in 1996. Several local rug hookers gathered to provide the means for an exchange of ideas and information, promote education activities and socialize with other like-minded crafters.
This fiber art consists of strips of fabric pulled through a loose weave fabric base, such as burlap, cotton, or linen, with a hook. Hooking strips into loops, close to each other, makes up the pile of the rug. Rug hooking began as a way to use up scrap material, worn out clothing, remnants, potato sacks and burlap. The show highlights a variety of color designs, shapes, and hooking techniques. The fiber artists will display a variety of work, including landscapes, animal portraits, and purses.
This fiber arts exhibition at the library is part of an art series organized by local artist Aparna Sinha with the assistance and support of Cathy Coleman and the Friends of the Sonoma Valley Library.
