The Rotary Club of Sonoma Valley recently sent out the following press release:
In response to the recent news regarding the $70,000 budget gap the Sonoma Volunteer Firefighters Association is facing for the July 4th fireworks, the Rotary Club of Sonoma Valley would like to issue a donation challenge to our local community. For every dollar donated for the fireworks from June 28 through July 5, our Rotary club will do a dollar for dollar match up to $7,500.
Our goal is to raise $15,000 or more with this challenge campaign to help address the budget gap the firefighters are facing and importantly, to help keep the July 4th fireworks going in Sonoma. The fireworks are obviously a very important and widely enjoyed part of Sonoma’s July 4th celebration each year.
Donations can be made by visiting sonomavolunteerfirefighters.org/fireworks-donations or by sending a check addressed to SVFA at 630 Second St. W. Sonoma, CA 95476-6901.
Cannot support fireworks
I would support a light show
Agree. A fireworks show in the middle of wildfire season — by a fire department — is mixed-messaging at its worst.
