For those of us regularly traveling north on Hwy. 121 and using the right lane to avoid the blinking, four-way stoplight at Arnold Drive to head east towards Napa, traffic is about to get messy beginning August 8, and lasting until sometime in November.
CalTrans is closing that right lane, forcing every vehicle to stop at the intersection before heading in any direction. The closure is due to the construction of the roundabout, and the closure schedule may be extended if the weather gets wet and delays work.
There are no good alternatives to passing through that intersection if headed south on Hwy. 121 to Hwy. 37 or North on Hwy. 121 to Arnold Drive Drive and west to Stage Gulch Road. Drivers are advised to add time to their planned travel to account for delays. Presumably, this will all be worth it once the roundabout is completed, but for a while, anyway, it’s going to get messy.
That intersection should benefit a lot by the new construction. It will be so much safer next week when that slingshot around the bend is stopped. That merge is one of the worst in the county and n a couple days it will be changed. That will save hundreds of car honks and nasty road rage per day. I love that area of the county. Carneros is where all my favorite wineries are. Gloria Ferrer, Anaba, Cline, Schug, Robledo, Viansa, Jucuzzi. Wow, what an amazing area! And my new favorite dispensary Loe is there too. Don’t forget about Carneros deli and Angelo’s sandwiches. Drive safe. Where’s the rush. I’m not sure about roundabouts but I am an optimist.
