The Sonoma Valley Regional Library is hosting an exhibition of paintings by Gayle Manfre from September 1 to 30. The public is invited to meet the artist at a reception on Friday, September 13 from 4:00pm to 5:30 pm in the library’s forum room. Light refreshments will be served. The exhibition will be available to view for the entire month of September during open hours when the forum room is not in use.
Gayle is a visual artist who has taught art classes in Sonoma Valley for many years. She has taught her students that there are no mistakes in art in order to liberate them from their own self critiques. Gayle believes that the act of creating becomes a healing source that allows an artist to express joy, frustration, or anguish. She often paints scenes and objects from everyday life that are nostalgic and reminiscent of her past, and she enjoys the “excitement of color.” The colorful paintings that she is sharing in her show at the library center around women’s history, and viewers will recognize many famous women from the past and present.
Gayle’s exhibition at the library is part of an art series organized by local artist Aparna Sinha with the assistance and support of Cathy Coleman and the Friends of the Sonoma Valley Library.
The events are free and open to all. The library is located at 755 West Napa Street, Sonoma. For more information contact library manager Sabine Salek at (707) 996-5217 or ssalek@sonomalibrary.org. Keep up with all library events at www.sonomalibrary.org and at www.facebook.com/sonomavalleylibrary.
