Small is Beautiful is Back

Sonoma Valley Next 100 is presenting a third screening of the film, Small is Beautiful – The Quest to Save the Valley of the Moon, at the Sebastiani Theatre on Sunday, October 20 at a new time at 5PM.  The screenings in July and August were sold-out.

The film, by local award-winning filmmaker, Carolyn M. Scott, highlights the problems with over-development and our community’s efforts to save the publicly-owned resources of the Sonoma Developmental Center.

The documentary raises critical questions about who truly benefits from profit-driven policies that do not serve our communities.  The photography is stunning with aerial views you would never see of the valley and the SDC.  Graphics illustrate the potential development and dangers of over-development.  The narrative discusses the policies in California which are coming into place to allow large developments in small communities all over the State.

Sonoma Valley Next 100 is fighting on behalf of the community using expert advice from legal and policy wonks and consultants to find loopholes and cracks in the laws governing the transition of the SDC and what it might look like in the future.  We are pushing back on behalf of the community and will be able to tell you some breaking news during the panel discussion.

A Panel Discussion after the film will be moderated by David Bolling, Editor of the Sonoma Valley Sun.  Panelists include Carolyn M. Scott (filmmaker), Norman Gilroy (Architect, SVNext 100) and Bean Anderson (Glen Ellen Historical Society), and Larry Barnett (Chair, Sonoma City Planning Commission).

If you saw the film and think you know all there is to know, think again!  The work of the SVN100 is ever changing following the bouncing ball of rules from the State, the County, and the Supreme Court.

Advance ticket purchase is required through Sebastianitheatre.com/tickets. Sliding scale ticket prices.  NOTE: the time for this showing is 5PM on Sunday, October 20.
