PG&E says the weather may prompt a public safety power shutoff
PG&E has announced that “the PSPS Potential forecast has been updated and now shows PSPS Warning for multiple counties across Northern California as breezy offshore flow and low humidity will contribute to elevated fire weather conditions tonight through Tuesday morning. Portions of Sonoma County will be affected.
An upper-level weather system will slide through the Pacific Northwest today and progress farther east towards the mid-west Monday and Tuesday. Surface high pressure builds to the north and east of CA behind the system, causing surface winds to shift offshore Monday and Tuesday. Dry northerly winds develop in the Shasta/Trinities overnight tonight and will move into the Sacramento Valley Monday morning. Winds are expected to relax in the afternoon before locally gusty winds develop over elevated terrain in the North and East Bay areas and mountain drainages late Monday into Tuesday morning. Strong winds are not expected, but gusts from 20 – 30 mph are forecast with some isolated gusts to 40 mph possible. The winds along with low RH, very dry dead fuel moistures and seasonally low live fuel moistures will produce a sharp increase in the fire potential Monday and Tuesday. The offshore winds and building high pressure will also rise temperatures Monday and Tuesday, with widespread maximums in the 90s to 105 degrees.
Only a portion of a county may experience a PSPS event. While a PSPS event may not be expected for an area, due to the interconnectivity of the grid any location within PG&E territory may be subject to PSPS event.”
