Progress on Springs Plaza
The Springs community has been promised a community plaza since the last century. For any number of reasons, it just hasn’t come to be. Recently, a few promising cement blocks and picnic tables appeared in the space.
Supervisor Susan Gorin explained, “I would have liked a plaza to be built before I retire at the end of this year, but projects like this take time, and I think we have been able to lay some groundwork. It is my intention to leave a strong illustration of the community interests for a plaza that have been shared with me over my tenure.
“There is a lot of work left to be done, but I truly believe that, with the support of this community, a Springs Community Plaza is in our future.”
Incoming First District Supervisor Rebecca Hermosillo commented, “Susan does want to prioritize the plaza because she has worked incredibly hard to make it happen. It will be great for the community. Supervisor Gorin has negotiated with the owner of Armando’s Auto Repair and they have agreed to provide water for the facility. She is trying to get them to also agree to set up electrical access so we can do string lights. And public infrastructure is looking into solar lights. Supervisor Gorin held a community meeting to get input from residents, and there was a good turn out including six-to-eight youth who also provided feedback. Susan is incorporating the easiest options from the list of what the community wanted now so she can get it started. The first steps are the lights, tables to gather, and beautiful clusters of mature trees to give shade.”
