Heavy rain prompts flood warning for Sonoma Valley

No evidence of stream flooding in late afternoon Thursday. A flood warning for the Sonoma Valley was posted by the National Weather Service late Thursday afternoon (November 21). According to the NWS map, the zone of potential flooding covers most of the Highway 12 corridor from Oakmont to Schellville and down to the edge of Skaggs Island.

As of late Thursday afternoon there were no signs of flooded roads and intersections. The perpetually flooded intersection of Highway 12 (Broadway) and Highway 121 at Millerick Road was open and unflooded, while Sonoma Creek, which transects the area was high and still rising.

Nathanson Creek, which flows through the campus of Sonoma Valley High School, was flowing full and smoothly at 4 p.m. and had not risen out of its banks.

The NWS flood warning is currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday.
