Sonoma Valley Historical Society Seeks Volunteers for Mountain Cemetery Project

The Sonoma Valley Historical Society is looking for volunteers/interns to assist with a project at the Mountain Cemetery in Sonoma: taking photos and documenting every grave-marker, collecting names, dates, etc.

Their intern, Eowyn Medeiros from Berea College in Kentucky, is managing the project and working with the City of Sonoma. She has a cadre of volunteers working with her to document the ‘residents’ and ArcGIS the locations of the cemetery plots. The society is doing a full review of the historic section of the Mountain Cemetery — so the historical records are updated and confirmed. The ultimate goal is to nominate Mountain Cemetery as a National landmark and provide families with an easy-to-use locator of the cemetery.

This is a great opportunity for high school or college students interested in history or GIS applications. Their own intern is working on her college holiday – from December 17th to January 4th – seven days a week and will need helpers as much as possible. Days & hours are flexible but they ask for a minimum of 16 hours over those 3 weeks to receive an internship letter perfect for college applications & resumes.
