Blue Oak School Board of Trustees has selected Hal Hensler, former Blue Oak Middle School head and interim head of school, as the new head of school. Located in Napa but drawing quite a few Sonoma students, Blue Oak School has been actively searching for a new head of school for the past eight months.
“Hal is ideally suited to lead our school through its next phase of growth and development. His ability to blend strong leadership skills with compassion, hands-on teaching experience and a firm commitment to progressive education is exactly what we were looking for,” said Tim Rodgers, board of trustees chairman
“I have always been proud to be a part of Blue Oak School, and today, as the new head of school, I am reminded that our school is not just a gathering of individuals in a traditional classroom setting. We are a cohesive community of learners: children, teachers and families, who, as a group, continue to demonstrate that we are capable of excellence in all its forms,” Hensler said. “I am passionate and committed to the school’s mission of educational innovation, diversity, community partnerships and environmental stewardship.”
Blue Oak is a kindergarten through eighth grade independent school which offers a challenging and stimulating education to children of diverse backgrounds and interests. With over 30 years of education experience, including as headmaster of Peninsula Heritage School, Hensler came to Blue Oak School in 2006 from Rolling Hills Country Day School in Rolling Hills Estates, Calif., where he served as middle school principal for 14 years. Since joining Blue Oak School, Hensler has played an important leadership role providing curricular expertise, building a strong school community, and nurturing teacher, student and family partnerships which promote learning.
