Sonoma Historical Society Photos Show Plaza Palm in 1910 and Today

The towering palm tree in the middle of the grassy area in the horseshoe surrounded by Sonoma Plaza Park was planted around 1910, as the photograph shows. In the background the fountain created by the Women’s Club is visible, installed around the same time.

The photo above shows the palm as it looks today. It is a Phoenix Canariensis, a variety of date palm.
