Muscardini Cellars took some top honors at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition held recently in Cloverdale.
The award for Judges Choice Best of Class in the $30.00 – $39.00 Syrah class went to Muscardini’s 2007 Gracie Creek Syrah. In addition, the 2007 Unti Syrah took Silver in the same category. The 2008 Barbera, from Pauli Ranch in Ukiah took Gold in the Barbera category and Muscardini’s proprietary Super Tuscan blend from 2007, Tesoro, took Silver in the Italian Varietals class. Even some pre-release wines, vintages that have
not yet been released to the public took home honors, with the 2008 Tesoro and the 2008 Monte Rosso Zinfandel both awarded Silver medals.
The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition is considered by many to be one of the most prestigious in the country. This year more than 63 judges tasted wines from some 1,500 wineries across the U.S. There will be a public tasting of all the winning wines on Saturday, February 20 at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco.
Muscardini Cellars is a small, family owned winery, producing less than 3,000 cases of hand-crafted Italian varietals. Muscardini’s winemaking inspiration comes from his grandfather, Emilio, who emigrated from Italy in 1909, taking three generations for the first vintage to arrive in 2005. Muscardini’s tagline is “Bottled with love, for the joy of living.” More information about Michael Muscardini and Muscardini Cellars can be found online at www.muscardinicellars.com
