Arson near Prestwood School

arson-prestwood
Arson is suspected in the midnight fire that burned a portable toilet to the ground and ignited a nearby fence between the city cemetery and Prestwood School.

Fire officials said the MacArthur Street blaze was most likely started in the porta-potty structure with an unknown accelerant, according to the police report. The heat completely melted the structure, which sat on a concrete pad on cemetery grounds,

Fire and police departments responded to the call just after midnight on May 22. No suspects were spotted and neighbors did not report any unusual activity.

The intense heat from the blaze set a wooden fence, which stands about six feet away from the bathroom unit, ablaze. Nearly 30 feet of fence was destroyed, and nearby trees and a telephone poll were charred.

PG&E said the damage to the utility poll was only cosmetic. The other damages were put at about $2,000, police reported.
