Sonoma City Councilmember August Sebastiani will step down at the end the year after serving one term. Sebastiani, who likely would have served as mayor in 2011 if reelected, made the announcement at Wednesday night’s council meeting.
The 30-year-old won the seat in his first campaign for elected office, in 2006, when he placed third in a field of five candidates. Steve Barbose and Ken Brown also won seats that year. Each has said publicly that he will seek another term.
A fourth-generation Sonoman, Sebastiani is the president of The Other Guys wine company, which has seen tremendous growth over that past few years. He was recently named to the board of directors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley.
The official period in which to file for the 2010 council race begins July 12.
