The Sonoma State University Chamber Singers, directed by Robert Worth, will perform fabulous, rarely heard music composed in Italy during the 14th, 15th, and early 16th centuries when they perform in concert at Andrews Hall, Sonoma Community Center, on Sunday, Dec. 2, at 2 p.m. Sponsored by the Sonoma Classical Music Society, the program is entitled “Padua, Ferrara and Firenze: Medieval and Renaissance Music in Northern Italy,” and will include Renaissance and Medieval Christmas music, and will feature works by Paola Tenorista, Johannes Ciconia, Guillaume Dufay and Josquin des Pres.
The Sonoma State University Chamber Singers is an ensemble of 20 singers dedicated to the performance of Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque music. In addition, the group occasionally does projects which feature contemporary music. Founded in 1991, the group has performed the works of such composers as Guillaume de Machaut, Johannes Ciconia, Josquin des Pres, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Claudio Monteverdi and Johann Sebastian Bach. The group has toured twice to Italy and, in June 2005, to Germany. At the Dec. 2 concert, the Chamber Singers will be performing ballads, madrigals, motets, and sections of the Mass, as well as Medieval and Renaissance carols.
Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for member of the Sonoma Classical Music Society, and $10 for students. They may be obtained from the Society’s Web site, www.sonomaclassical.com, from Reader’s Books, the Sonoma Music Store, Pharmaca, and at the door.
