The di Rosa Preserve: Art & Nature announces MFA Selections, the second biennial salute to Bay Area emerging artists. The exhibit will run from Jan. 26 through Mar. 15 in the Gatehouse Gallery at the preserve at 5200 Hwy. 121 in Napa.
“A Salute to Bay Area Emerging Artists” showcases the work of eight artists who recently completed their MFA degrees at Bay Area art schools and universities. Artists include Chris Bell and Kamau Patton from Stanford University; Ali Dadgar and Jenifer Wofford from the University of California, Berkeley; Joshua Eggleton and Dan Lydersen from the San Francisco Art Institute; and Renee Gertler and Elizabeth Mooney from the California College of the Arts. Artists were selected by jury process.
Reflecting the diverse voices of young artists working today, the exhibition will include works that cross a broad scope of media, including painting, sculpture, drawing, video and installations. The work to be exhibited will be chosen with the artists. They are free to create and/or select works especially for the show in the Gatehouse Gallery.
There will be an opening reception on Saturday, Jan. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. and a panel discussion on “The MFA Experience” on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. The discussion will be led by Larry Thomas, artist, former dean of the San Francisco Art Institute and juror for the MFA exhibition, who will be joined by MFA artists in a discussion about emerging artists, mentors, and curating new talent. Admission for this event is $10. RSVP by e-mail to janet@dirosapreserve.org or call 707.226.5991, ext. 4.
