World class classical

The Daedalus Quartet, four young, inventive classical musicians who have played prestigious venues around the world, come to Sonoma’s Jacuzzi Family Vineyards Winery for a concert on Saturday, March 19.

The 5 p.m. concert is event is presented by the Sonoma Classical Music Society.

“I first heard the quartet on CD some years ago and was impressed,” said event producer Wally Breitman, who has great trust in the group’s manager, whose music groups “are always world class.” When he learned the group was planning a West Coast tour, “I jumped at the chance to book them.”

For the Sonoma concert the group will play works by Mozart, Janacek, and Schubert.

“Their program is superb,” Breitman said. “The Mozart is one of his last string quartets and one of his best; the Janacek has been heard here before and is one of the finest early 20th century string quartets, and the Schubert “Death and the Maiden” quartet is among the top six string quartets in the chamber music repertoire. It’s magnificent.”

Tickets are $20 for Society members, $25 general and $10 for students. Tables of four, cabaret style, with a bottle of wine are $40 per person. “It lends an air of informality,” Breitman said. “The Jacuzzi venue is great.”
