Local children and teens are the topic of the next Springs town hall meeting on Monday evening, April 7 at the Sonoma Charter School. This is the second in a series of quarterly town hall meetings designed to bring together members of The Springs community.
Guest speakers representing the Springs Schools Initiative, the Valley of the Moon Teen Center, United Community Resources for Youth (UCRY), Boys and Girls Club at Springs Village and the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation will talk about their groups’ programs. Representatives from the Sonoma County Sheriffís office, La Luz Center, Sonoma Valley Community Health Center and Vineyard Workers Services will also give overviews of their organizations’ work with youth in The Springs. Springs Task Force Coordinating Committee member Sheana Davis will serve as panel moderator.
“I’m looking forward to sharing The Springs community activities with all of the residents of the Valley,” said Davis. “This second town hall meeting brings the focus to the children of The Springs, including education, safety, childcare, teen activities and much more.”
The evening’s program will include a short performance by Los Trovadores, a Latino children’s theater group from Sonoma Charter School. The group’s plays are written and directed by the school’s part-time Spanish teacher, Gabriel Sanchez Novarro, and include anti-drug and anti-gang messages in the stories.
Doors open at 6 p.m. with a reception hosted by Moore Recycling Associates, featuring a selection of appetizers from Epicurean Connection and coffee donated by Barking Dog Roasters. Non-profit agencies that serve The Springs area will also have information tables set up during the reception.
The program and community conversation will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and ample time for audience participation is planned. Childcare and bilingual translation will be provided. The event is free and open to anyone interested in learning more about what’s happening in The Springs.
Springs town hall meetings on other topics will also be held in July and October.
