A man who sped away from a police traffic stop, hitting a police car and swerving towards a deputy as he fled the scene, was later arrested on foot Saturday afternoon.
Lake County resident, Cameron Selva, 20, was allegedly driving a GMC pickup about 12:30 a.m. when it was pulled over for a mechanical violation on Fourth St. West at W. Napa St.
The driver of the truck was unable to provide any identification, and gave a fake name. He then re-started the truck. The deputy, and the backup deputy who had arrived at the scene, ordered the suspect to turn off the ignition.
Instead, the driver put the truck in reverse. One deputy fired a Taser through the open passenger side window, but it missed the moving target.
According to Sgt. Spencer Crum, the driver backed into the front end of the patrol car, then swerved into the traffic lane and towards the other deputy. The officer jumped out of the way to avoid being hit by the truck. The driver sideswiped a parked Mercedes and sped off.
Both deputies ran back to their patrol cars to pursue the suspect, but lost sight of the truck. It was later found parked in the 700 block of Lasuen Drive. The owner was contacted, Crum reported, and confirmed that the driver had been Selva.
At about 3 p.m. on Saturday, a deputy spotted Selva walking behind the Sonoma Library and arrested him without incident.
Selva was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on charges of felony assault on a peace officer, hit and run, providing false identification to a peace officer, resisting arrest, failing to yield to officers, and driving on a suspended license. His bail was set at $300,000.
