A teenage burglary suspect who spent several weeks at large after evading a police manhunt in September is on the run again after escaping Thursday from a car returning him to juvenile hall.
The Sonoma 16-year-old had been serving time at a juvenile facility in Nevada. Lately his behavior had become problematic, police said, and he was ordered back to Sonoma County.
He was transported by a contract, civilian driver in a standard passenger car, police said. He was not handcuffed or restrained in any way, and the window was rolled down about half-way. His shoes were removed.
When the car approached Maxwell Village in Sonoma, the teenager slipped out of the window and ran into the shopping center. A police search including helicopter was called, but the suspect had disappeared.
In the September incident, the teen was connected to a burglary in progress at a Greve Street home. Police set up a perimeter around the house, but the suspects escaped. Later that night, the burglars returned to steal the victim’s car.
