“Stellar Motions” by Moto Ohtake is on display at A New Leaf Gallery at Cornerstone Gardens.
Art has come alive at A New Leaf Gallery as its new kinetic sculpture exhibit has taken over the gardens and given form to the beauty of the wind. The exhibit, which opened on June 22, features the work of artists John Tyler, Jeffery Laudenslager, Troy Pillow, Moto Ohtake and Phill Evans and embellishes the gallery, patios, and gardens at Cornerstone Place with its energy and grace.
The sculptures are in constant motion, their gleaming metals powered by the wind and providing an interactive experience for viewers. Featured artist John Tyler is known for his tree-like sculptures, which produce a “captivating dance of unpredictable action” that can defy logic.
Kinetic sculptures are a challenging and beautiful form of art as they take on a fourth dimension of time that is not seen in the three-dimensional world of static sculpture. Laudenslager, who draws inspiration from George Rickey’s masterful use of balance and his own interest in nearly colliding elements, presents sculptures that are both powerful and delicate, while Ohtake’s delicate stainless steel works reference the “anatomy of nature,” from tree leaves to planetary systems.
