Armed robbers caught thanks to local action and good police work

On July 18 at about 3:57 PM, Sonoma Police Deputies received a call for an armed robbery at the recycling center behind the Safeway store on W. Napa St. The victims reported a white male and a Hispanic male armed with handguns had demanded money. They said the suspects also mentioned having a machine gun. The suspects took cash from the victims and then fled northbound on 5th St. West in a black sports car. The victims could not see the license number as the rear plate rear was bent upward to avoid detection.

Sheriff’s Deputies and the Sheriff’s helicopter joined in the search for the suspects.

At about 4:25 PM, a resident in the El Portola neighborhood in Agua
Caliente reported that two males in a black Mitsubishi Eclipse appeared to be
hiding in the area. The vehicle then left that area.

At about 4:35 PM, a deputy located the suspect vehicle in the area of
Hwy. 12 and Arnold Drive. The deputy pursued the suspect vehicle (a black
Mitsubishi Eclipse) westbound on Hwy. 12. During the pursuit, one of the suspects threw a handgun from the vehicle. The suspects then came to a stop just east of Dunbar Rd. and were taken into custody without incident. Officers later located a loaded 9mm pistol alongside Hwy. 12 near Nuns Canyon Rd.

The suspects, Ramon Llamas, age 19 of Napa and a 16-year-old juvenile
male of Napa were arrested and turned over to Sheriff’s detectives
from the Violent Crimes Unit for further investigation.
