For Sonoma Valley 4-H and Future Farmers of America youth, the Sonoma County Fair Junior Livestock Auction is the culminating event of a year’s worth of hard work raising lambs, steers and hogs. Kids and teenagers select and purchase their livestock, and during the year-long project of raising the animals, they learn about producing food, budgeting and being in business for themselves. The kids bring their projects to the fair to be judged and graded, and only the highest quality animals are selected to be sold at the Junior Livestock Auction. The Junior Livestock Auction events will be held in the Livestock Area of the fairgrounds in the Wilford, Dorfman or Jamison rings, depending on the animals in question.
Proceeds from the auction help support the educational programs of 4-H and Future Farmers of America. For more information on the Junior Livestock Auction, call 707.545.4203 or visit www.sonomacountyfair.com. A Junior Livestock Auction brochure can be picked up at the fair office.
