Drive your own car on Sonoma Raceway

For the first time ever, Sonoma Raceway will allow race fans and amateur drivers to drive their own cars for a few laps around the track, all in the name of charity. the Sonoma Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities debuts its first-ever Laps for Charity event on Saturday, Jan. 18.

This unique experience includes pre-lap tips with professional racing instructors, three lead-follow laps around the 12-turn, 2.52-mile circuit and a picture of your car on track. The cost is $100, and all proceeds benefit kids in need through Sonoma County youth organizations.

A limited number of spots in half-hour increments are now available between 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 18. Participants must be 18 years old or older, and passengers will not be permitted. All cars must have mufflers and pass a basic technical inspection.

If I had good tires on the S2k, I’d do this in a heartbeat!

Fact: Google NASA HPDE. For years, anyone can take their car on the track and run at speed during special track days.

Yeah, but this is only $100. You don’t have to pay to have it tech’ed beforehand, and all proceeds benefit kids in need through Sonoma County youth organizations.

Not bad for 1/2 hour of track time.
